Adam's first movie

Adam got to see his first movie, "SeaRex", this past Monday.

We got to the Science center a little after 10AM, and planned on going to the 11AM show. But apparently I didn't pay attention to the AM/PM part, and there was no 11AM show, just an 11PM show. So we had to wait until the next showing, which was 1PM.

We figured that 3 hours to kill at the Science Center with a 3-year-old might not be that fun... but boy were we wrong.

Adam was perfect the whole time. We went through the Grossology exhibit, which has educational stations explaining why out body needs to do the gross things (burp, fart, vomit, etc). There was actually a station where you put your nose up to this nozzle, push a button, and smell the smell that comes out. The buttons were labeled "Bad breath", "Armpit", "Foot", and "Anus". Yeah... we were all dumb enough to smell them.

Adam at the Grossology exhibit

Then, we spend about an hour in the gift shop. Kim read Adam books, and Adam played with some of the toys. But we were up front with him in the beginning and said that we're just looking. And that went over just fine. He was great, and never complained.

Finally we went to the show. During the previews, Adam declared "The TV is as big as our house!" quite loudly during a silent part. It was pretty funny. But after we told him that he needs to whisper a few times, that's exactly what he did. He was quiet for the rest of the show. It was pretty cute watching him turn his entire body back-and-forth to see the whole screen.

We made a big deal about how good he was... and how he whispered instead of spoke out loud. So, on the way home, he kept saying "The movie was SOOO cool!" and "I whispered, I was a good boy", and stuff like that. So you could tell that he had a really great time.

Kim and I were excited, because now we have a new movie buddy.

Welcome Lanie

Welcome back! And this time with the whole family! Lanie is finally here!

She's beautiful. She's over three months old by now, so she's smiling and cooing and melting my heart.

Adam is purely perfect as a big brother. He has shown no signs of jealousy, in fact he is the most loving little boy I've ever seen with a new addition to the family. He constantly has to rub her head, and always says things like "Aw, she's so cute!". You can tell he loves her so much.

And it seems that the feeling is mutual. Lanie always lights up when she sees or hears him. Sometimes she just sits there and stares at him. I like to think that she's staring adoringly, because that's what it looks like.

Anyway, Mommy and I are so happy that she's here and healthy, and the final piece to our perfect family.

Adam's reactions

It's been over a month since we told Adam that there is a baby girl in Mommy's tummy. The first words out of his mouth after we told him was "Can I see the baby?". He was very sincere... for 3 seconds, then he was back to playing with his trucks, ha ha.

Since then though, he is very understanding of what is going on (for a 2 year old). Sometimes he randomly wants to go upstairs to play in "Lanie's Room", as he calls it. Sometimes he talks to Lanie through Mommy's tummy, sometimes he rubs it too.

But, all in all, he is taking it amazingly well. I'm excited to see how he acts once she's finally here. I think he's going to be a great big brother.

Also, we decided to put him in a big boy bed, so that there is a couple month buffer before he sees his crib again in Lanie's room. We didn't want him to think that we chose her over him with the crib, so we decided to try.

The first time he saw his bed, he cried a little bit, saying "I don't like my bed, I like my crib", and things like that... but that only lasted for about 10 minutes, once we put him in bed, I crawled in with him and read him books. He loved the fact that Mommy and I can now get in bed with him. And from then on, he acts as if that's the bed he's been sleeping in forever! Now, at naps, he just crawls in and goes to sleep.

He's an amazing little man, and we're very proud of him.

Diving board

Wow, two additions in one day after a 3 month hiatus? I'm ambitious, and you all are lucky!

Anyway, I just wanted to post that Adam has officially jumped off of the diving board for the first time today. He did it 2 times!

I took him over to Papa and Gigi's Memorial Day pool party this year, and he wasn't all that interested in being in the water. The next time he was over there, Kim said he was jumping off of the ledge into her arms. After seeing me dive off of the diving board today, he said he wanted to do it too... so I convinced Kim to let me catch him. He loved it! And we have video to prove it!

Again, we're very proud of our brave little big boy!

I just wanted to post that Adam has officially jumped off of the diving board for the first time today. Technically, he did it 2 times!

Adam's dream

Well, another few months have passed. Adam is definitely growing up. I think this is the first post I've written since Kim has been pregnant. We still haven't told Adam yet. We're either going to wait and show him the ultrasounds (live in August, in the doctor's office) so we can explain what he's looking at, or we're going to wait until Kim is much bigger (she's barely showing now) so it makes more sense.

Anyway, the reason for this post was for hilarity's sake. Adam took a good, long nap today, so Kim and I went in to wake him up together at 4:00PM. He was laying on his side, curled up in the fetal position. I gently rubbed his back, letting him ease out of sleep, and he rolled over, looked at both of us, and said "Plankton stole the formula!" Apparently he was dreaming about the Spongebob universe! Ha ha, it was hilarious!

Anyway, I picked him up, and he laid his head on my shoulder, and said "I love you daddy". The entire moment was amazing!

Big boy potty

Adam peed in the big boy potty for the first time today! We got him out of the tub and laid him down on the floor of his bedroom to put his lotion and jammies on, but he started peeing a little bit before we could get his diaper on. He only went a little bit before he stopped, so we brought him into the bathroom and set him down on his little-boy toilet (a kid's seat that sits on top of the regular toilet seat). He didn't want to be on there and was putting up a bit of a fuss, but then he started peeing. Mommy and I were cheering him on, of course, and then he liked it. When he got done, we let him flush the toilet as a reward. He said he wanted to do it again!

Hopefully this is day 1 of a quick transition towards potty-training!

Lots of thanks and love goes out to Grammy for helping him feel comfortable with sitting on a potty in the first place. I think our full-sized toilet is a little intimidating for him compared to her separate little boy toilet, but he seemed to like it this time.

We're proud of you, Adam! (Not to mention excited to get rid of those diapers!)

There's no doubt about it

I walked into the bedroom this morning after my workout, and Adam was laying in bed with Mommy. He got all excited and then started singing (with the hand gestures):

I love you, there's no doubt about it.
You are my best buddy!

It made my week!

Happy Birthday!!!

Happy birthday Adam! You're growing up so fast. You've constantly amazed us with how smart you are. Your vocabulary is ridiculous, your knowledge and understanding of how things work is outstanding, and your problem solving skills are amazing!

We love you so much! You're always happy and laughing, not to mention hilarious. You're a joy to be around, and already one of my "best buddies".

Happy 2nd birthday!

Love Mommy & Daddy

Best buddy

Adam has been coming up to us lately, putting the back side of his hand onto one of us, and saying "Best Buddy". It's really cute.

Sweetness

Just a quick update today.

Kim brought Adam into our bed around 6:45AM this morning. He was so sweet. Everything he said was in a very soft and sweet voice. Things like "Mommy, hungry?", or "Fan, off?", etc.

Anyway, Kim and I were tired, and just relaxing there with him for a few more minutes. We'd respond and let him know that we heard him, but we didn't react right away.

Finally, after a few seconds, he turned and looked at me and said "Please daddy, fan off". So I turned it off.

It was pretty much a complete sentence, with definite meaning behind each word. He's so smart.

Football

Today, I got a call from Kim saying that they were eating at the South County food court, when Adam started yelling and pointing behind her. He was yelling "FOOTBALL FOOTBALL!!!". Kim turned around, and sure enough, football was playing on the TV... not soccer, or basketball, but football.

He's a sponge! I shall call him Spongebob! I pointed to the TV last Sunday during the Packer game and told him that it was football, but that's the extent of it. Just the fact that he remembered 4 days later, and could differentiate it between other sports with balls is impressive.

Well done Spongebob!

I'm Batman

I forgot to document this!

About a week ago, Kim and Adam were at the grocery store, and the clerk asked Adam what his name was, to which he replied... "Batman".

Yes, my son is Batman.

Adam counting

Kim just called me, and Adam just counted to 10!

She said that she had counted to 10 fifteen minutes earlier. And he was saying 6 and 7 over and over again in the back seat. Then all of a sudden he says:

1
2
3
...
6
7
8
9
10

So he skipped 4 and 5, but it still counts! I knew he could count to 3, and I've heard him say 5 and 6 together, but I've never heard him say them ALL together in the correct order!

We're so proud of him!

Adam's First Big-Boy Sentence

Well, Adam has been putting together little sentences for a couple of months now. Things like "Daddy, go outside" and things like that. Sometimes he'd get the words jumbled up, but the whole of it was there.

Yesterday Kim called me at work to tell me his first complete sentence. Apparently he had pooped, so she took him upstairs to his room to change his diaper. He was not having it. I guess he was squirming and trying to get away, and just didn't want to be up there. So Kim told him, "Adam, you pooped, I have to change your diaper... then we'll go back downstairs and play". She continued, but he just kept on struggling. So finally she asked "Adam, why don't you want me to change your diaper?" And his response was "Mama, I dihn't poop".

See? All the makings of a complete sentence. We love the fact that his first real sentence was a complete lie. Kim was looking at the poop as he said it (she's a lucky gal, huh?). Not to mention the fact that it was about poop!

Anyway, he's developing his vocabulary so fast, it's so much fun to be able to talk to him and have him answer back.

Chatterbox

I just wanted to write a quick post to let you all know that Adam took a HUGE step towards talking like a little boy. When he was around 12 months, Kim and I counted up all of the words he knew and it was ALOT. He continued to learn more, but it was at a much slower pace. We even commented how he hasn't really picked up on alot of new words, and he even got lazier with the words he knew, like "daddy" became "dayee".

But, about 3-4 weeks ago, he kicked it up into high gear again. It's like he absorbed everything during his slow-time, without ever letting on that he was paying attention, then suddenly used up all of the new words at one time.

It's crazy, now he's talking like a little boy, and we're loving it! We get to have little conversations with him, he's stringing together words into sentences, and he's adding ownership to words, like "mommy's car", etc.

We're very proud of him.

Adam is pretending on a whole new level.

Adam has been pretending for a while now. He plays with his cars and trucks making "beep beep" noises, or his airplanes going "nehhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrr, dadadadadadada", etc.

But I got a call this morning from Kim saying that she took him downstairs to feed him breakfast, and he brought "Brownie" down with him (the stuffed dog I got him and her for her first Mother's Day). Kim proceeded to ask him if he wanted cereal and he whispered "Shhhh, mama, puppy sleeping" and he laid it down on it's side. Kim loved it, but played along and said "Oh, ok. I'll lay him over here". So she gently moved him to another chair, all the while trying not to wake him".

Adam was fine with that. So Kim went about her business of preparing breakfast for him, and kind of forgot that the puppy was sleeping. So she asked him another question to which he responded in a very serious whisper again, "No no no, mama, puppy sleeping, shhhhhh".

We kind of have to assume he's relating this puppy to our new neighbors' new chocolate lab. And he's playing make believe, pretending that he has a real puppy. But either way, it's so much fun to watch him evolve into such a wonderful little boy.

Unreadable

Well, this morning Adam wanted absolutely nothing to do with me. I don't know if it's because my hair is a little longer than normal, or if it's because of my mid-beard, or what. But anytime I get close to him, he pulls in close to Kim or Nana, pointing at me saying "No no no". And if I get too close, he'll push me away. He pretty much had a mini-tantrum all morning, and I really felt like I was the focus of it. I realize that with having to stay at Nana's place, and working alot (back from vacation leftover mess), and working on the house, I haven't gotten to play with him much, so maybe he's mad at me (If so, Adam, I'm very sorry and I miss you).

I know this happens with kids, so I wasn't too upset about it, but it did kind of hurt a little, you know? I was Adam's go-to guy in Florida, he couldn't get enough of Daddy. But today was the exact opposite.

Anyway, I decided I'd better leave for work early so he could hopefully get past this mood he was in, and Kim wouldn't have to deal with it (she's been dealing with alot lately, with the new house and all (thanks baby!)). As I was about to leave, I heard Adam say "Daddy, daddy...", and I turned around to see what he wanted, and he said "bye-bye" while waving, then blew me a kiss! All of this without anyone telling him to do it. It really made my day.

So, anyway, that's why I titled this post "Unreadable", because I began the morning feeling sorry for Adam and myself, and end the morning surprised yet again by my amazing little boy.

Pensacola Beach 2009

Well, I'm a couple weeks late in adding this, but Adam had a great time in Pensacola. He didn't like the sand much, and it took him a few days to like the ocean, but once he did we all had alot of fun. We jumped waves and looked for shells.

All of Kim's cousins did a great job of keeping him entertained (Thanks!), especially Alyssa. Her and Adam played pretty much whenever he was awake, I think it really helped him feel comfortable and enjoy himself down there.

The above picture segues nicely into my next little tidbit of Adam information. He's pretty good at smiling on queue now, as you can see. But he's also a bit of a ham, which I think he get's from his Uncle Justin. Here is the resulting picture of me saying "Adam, show me a big smile".

And I leave you with cuteness.
